Are You a Procrastinator?

Note: if your office looks like this seek help

So its been a couple of weeks since I have been able to talk about finance as it relates to being sucess and let me tell ya why.

Not only have I been in a bit of a A.D.D state of mind but i had also caught the procrasitation bug. Now thankfully I have never been as bad as mom but I must admit I carry some of those habits of waiting til the last minute and trust me i have had my share of mishaps do to this. So in honor of beautiful ladies, I have created a list of ways to keep from being and or helping with procrastination. Everyday we need to be reminded of our goals and it is a must to always do something each day to promote a goal or dream you have.

1. Make a list - This is key, if you can’t remember it, how ya gonna do it?? A list is a good way to keep a reminder of what needs to be done in your day. Checking this off the list is equaly important, it gives you a “yes i can” type of boost as well as allow for additions, or modifications if things change throughout the day.

2. Tell someone- If its important enough and you have good friends they are a good way to help you stay on track. I can remember a number of times where I was rambling off to my best friend about nothing and she reminded me of something I said I had to do. Trust it works a lot!!

3. Reward yourself - Ok don’t go having a cookie each time you complete a task lol, but do something to reward yourself. If you finanally finished studying for your test, take a bubble bath to relax, or if you finished that book you had been planing to read, have a ball watching dvr episodes of your favorite show. What ever it is it doesn’t have to cost you anything just to say yay me!

4. Go to work! - I dunno about you but working in the office can be a total drag but it has its upsides. When I have down time at work im always compelled to do things other than work work, I remember on day finishing an entire budget, balancing of the check book making a grocery list, all in the name of NOT working. If you work in a laid back type office envirnment this works like a charm, even if you don’t work in an office try to put yourself in that type of work setting.

5. Do it - Well you know how that works lol.

So there is my lil list, feel free to add to it!!

I’m back!!! (for now lol)

One of our commenters, Akua, is desperately trying to find her sister who has been missing.  Posting this flyer is the least I can do.  If anyone has any information … don’t hesitate.

Thank you Comeback Girl for organizing this.

Akua … you and your sister are in my prayers.

You Life Mission Statement

I was listening to the Dave Ramsey show yesterday and an e-mail question came in about having a mission statement for your life. The way it was explained to me is that just like having a goal, it explains what is NOT going to happen. IE like if your Mcdonalds you more than likey don’t sell tacos right?? lol ok somethin like that. Anyways so I got to thinking about what my mission statement for life is and I have decided to share what I came up with. Feel free to share yours too!

Mikki’s Mission Statement

As I am fearfully and wonderfully made, my mission in life is to help people in my community learn how to leave legacies for their children and build wealth. What I want to be is a mentor as well as an example to young adults. My goal is to teach and educate people about debt, finances, and wealth. To be able to show people how they can have that 3 bedroom home with a little dog running around in the yard named bucky, and not have to struggle in the process. To show people how they can send kids to college without going into debt or working themselves into the ground. I want to show people how they can go about and also be a leader and make a difference in the community. To have a joyous life is a wonderful thing and everyone should be able experience peace and happiness at some point in their life. My mission statement is about being the best that I can be for myself and my family and the people around me that I love and care for. With God as my guide I will be able to do the things he has called me to and show every one that yes YOU REALLY CAN!!

end

So guys give it a go!

My Little BIG Dream

As many of you may know I recently brought my very first investment property(picture above). I am extremely excited to say the least but this rehab will be one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. Why you ask? because this is the first time I will NOT be taking out a loan to fund the process.

All of my adult life I have been conditioned to think that loans were a way of life. Since having gone through Financial Peace University I have learned that there is a better way to be successful and build wealth at the same time. Becoming a full time investor has been a big goal of mine for some time and to see the dream unfold is pretty amazing. The plan for this house is for me to rehab it and rent it out. The only problem with this is that I don’t have the cash right now to do the rehab. Now most of us (including me because I thought of it) would think hey put it on a credit card OR get a bank loan right? Yes thats pretty much the american way. We have been taught that because we can get access to fast money and low interest that its not a big deal. Well it is when you get laid off, or get hurt, or can’t rent out your house 100% of the year. Who is stuck with the loan? YOU thats right YOU.

Knowing that I am human and pretty much bound to have emergencies come about that will not always be in my control, I have decided to lessen the sting by not having so much debt, in fact I don’t plan to have any debt. I am going to fund all of my rehabs and home purchases with cash. Now this plan admitting takes longer to build wealth than any bank loan or maxing out of a credit card could do. But the satisfaction I will have from knowing that each and every deal I do will be paid for is far greater than any loan I can get. Its called peace of mind.

According to a survey done by Forbes magazine on 400 richest Americans, when asked what  the number 1 way to build wealth 75% of them said to get out of debt and stay out of debt, compelling right? I agree that some 25% actually made it with debt but I don’t plan to take that chance, especially with all the things I know can happen, why do I know because I have been around many times when disaster has stricken in my own life.

So the key to building wealth truly is to not create more in the process of getting out.

Over the next few months I will be journaling my progress with the home as well as the road to debt freedom. As I have done in the past this is my life and im here to share it with you!

Weekend Fab

Filed Under: can I get an amen!, weekend fab    by: Anitraclark

So I must say Saturday was full of fabulosity! I had my very first speaking engagement at Union Baptist Church and It was great. The women treated me so nicely and I had a wonderful time. I was a bit nervous and I even cried a couple times but I pulled through it.

There was a question and answer session at the end and I found myself being able to answer a lot of the questions people had. We actually ran out of time but I got a chance to speak with those who didn’t have their questions answered. People seem to be really interested in attending FPU and I am really excited about the program coming together. I may have even found a church home in the process. I have been blessed in many areas in my life over the last year and I thank God for allowing me the opportunity to share something that I am passionate about. To be able to live a dream is one of the greatest things and I look forward to more opportunities like this.

To have people be impacted by your words means a lot. I am not running for president but I am advocating change in my community. The hope is that I am able to spread the message to many churches around Lansing and Detroit about being wealthly and leaving a legacy for our children.

Many people now look to me to pave the way so its very important that I stay on track with my goals. There are also people who hate on the process and don’t believe in the way I am doing things. To those people I say keep hating because that means I must be doing something right.

I must restate the fact that being in Financial peace University is not JUST about getting out of debt. Its about becoming a better person and living up to your full potential. Its not about getting rich but more about learning how to prosper when times are good and when times are bad. My future childen will be greatful that am able to create a stable environment and give them the opportunities that I didn’t have growing up. Its about sacrificing short term for long term gains. I say if I can do it anybody can and that is my prayer for those around me, that they will!!

Enjoy the weekend folks!
